Located in Main Road Green point, Doppio Zero offers service and food to be admired. The franchise was started in 2002 with a few outlets in the Johannesburg area and has grown to 12 outlets in Gauteng and the Cape. One of their mission’s commitments is “uncompromising best quality of food, service and people” which they lived up to outstandingly.

As we walked in to Doppio Zero we were immediately greeted by a friendly waitress and promptly escorted to our table. The unique decor inside Doppio Zero gives one the feeling of being at home and just relaxing. As we looked around there was an array of people each doing a different activity while at the restaurant. From using laptops (Doppio Zero has free wifi) to having a family lunch, Doppio Zero caters for your every need.

They have a very extensive menu from Coco Pops (breakfast for the younger generation) to a Mixed Italian grill (consists of Grilled lamb chops, steak tagliata, half grilled chicken, chorizo, pork fillet, meat balls, chips and a side salad). We decided to have a go at an entry level meal, pizza, which is the standard test for every good restaurant. There was an exceptionally wide selection of pizzas and choosing one was extremely difficult. Something which I really found neat was there Doppio Pizza which consists of two halves of any two pizzas for R78. If you are a bit low on cash then their Peasant pizza is just for you. At R66 for a margarita with any two toppings, you cannot go wrong.

The service was very good and efficient. Although the restaurant was empty when we were there, I can’t see the service being compromised when they are at full capacity. After ordering our drinks, they arrived within 5minutes and I was very impressed with only a 15minute wait for our food to arrive.

The manager, Colin Haupt, is very down-to-earth and informative. After asking us how our meal was he gave us a brief history of Doppio Zero and what they look to achieve as a unique outlet. He also informed us that every Sunday evening, starting at 7, from the 1st Oct- 31st Dec there is live entertainment (from resident band The King and Us) and there is No cover charge. He went on to inform us that the average spent by a person for a full meal is +- R100. We found this out ourselves when our meal (2 pizzas, 2 drinks and 1 dessert) came to R214.

All in all this is the perfect restaurant if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the “Big City life”. It’s homely and comfortable environment sets the tone for an enjoyable and very good meal. If you are not in the mood for a big meal, there Gelati which is made using only imported ingredients is every persons dream. It is the tiny differences and the attention to detail which really sets this restaurant apart from the rest. So why not kick back, relax and enjoy a meal at Doppio Zero in Green Point?

Happy feasting
