The question on everyone’s lips is what has happened to the Hurricanes with all their potential which is being largely wasted and also what has happened to the Sharks team that went overseas? Is Lambie that influential or are the Sharks in their normal mid-season slump. Stormers are still unbeaten and they deserve it with their rock hard defence. The Rebels still producing exciting rugby and the Lions still disappointing. As for the Bulls (who should change their name to Morne Steyn) they are still playing average rugby but getting results none the less.
Varsity Cup (Semi-Finals)
UCT beat Shimlas 57-20
Tuks beat UJ 25-11
UCT outplayed and outclassed Shimlas everywhere on the field and made them look pretty average on the day. They are unlucky not to be hosting their home final next week, but due to lack of facilities Tuks get the home final after beating UJ in an exciting game of running rugby on the Highveld. UJ however will be wondering what happened after beating both UCT and Maties to finish top of the table only to ‘choke’ in the semi-final.
Cup Final: New Zealand beat South Africa 28-20
Plate Final: Wales beat Argentina 14-7
Bowl Final: USA beat Kenya 17-10
Shield Final: Japan beat Tonga 22-5
New Zealand won their 4th title of the 2011 season with a victory over a spirited South African team who out-scored New Zealand 5trie to 4. South Africa also beat Fiji and England on their road to the final and should be proud of their efforts. Elsewhere Wales beat Argentina to capture the Plate, USA beat fellow Africans Kenya in the Bowl and finally Japan beat Tonga to win the Shield.
World Cup 2011 (Final)
India beat Sri Lanka 6 wickets
MS Dhoni played one of the best captains’ innings the world has seen in World Cup cricket to guide India to victory against a spirited Sri Lanka who bid farewell to Mutaih Muralithiran. Dhoni’s 91 not out along with Gambhirs 96 guided the Indians to victory after a shaky start. The Sri Lankans however had their chances with Gambhir being dropped on 20 and Dhoni was let off with a missed stumping first ball. Overall it was one of the best finals ever seen and a fitting way to end the tournament. Player of the tournament was given to Yuvaraj Singh AKA Yuvi for his brilliant overall performance with bat and ball throughout the tournament.
Supersport Series (Final Round of Fixtures)
Dolphins drew with the Lions
Titans drew with the Knights
Cobras beat the Warriors by 7 wickets
The Supersport series was completed for the season with the Cobras defending their title and adding this trophy to their Pro 20 title they won earlier this year. Going into the final round of fixtures just a fraction ahead of the Titans on the table, a victory would all but seal the title. A victory they got by beating the Warriors inside 4days with the Titans only managing a draw with the Knights.
Azarenka beat Sharapova 6-1 6-4
Victoria Azarenka defeated Maria Sharapova to win her second WTA Miami title on Saturday. This was a good week for both ladies with Sharapova regaining some of her early career form that won her 3 Grand Slam titles.
Sony Ericsson Open
Djokovic beat Nadal 4-6 6-3 7-6(7-4)
Novak Djokovic beat Rafael Nadal in three sets to extend his unbeaten run in 2011 to an incredible 26 matches. He will be looking to continue this form in the clay court part of the ATP tour before trying to capture the French Open at Roland Garros.
Shell Houston Open
Phil Mickelson shot spectacular rounds of 63 65 on the weekend to beat Chris Kirk by 3 shots with a 20 under par 268 total just a week before the Masters where he will try defend his Green Jacket. The best placed South African was, Open Champion, Lious Oosthuizen in tied 16th on 9 under.
Tropeee Hassan II
David Horsey beat South African, Jaco van Zyl, and Walshman, Rhys Davies, in a play-off to win the Trophee Hassan II in Agadir ,Morocco. All the players finished on 13 under 274 total with Horsey winning from van Zyl on the second playoff hole after Davies was knocked out on the first playoff hole.

Jorge Lorenzo won his 2nd Moto GP race in a row to continue his brilliant start to the season where he is defending his Moto GP Championship Crown. Dani Pedrosa finished second 19.339seconds behind with Nicky Hayden a further 10seconds behind Pedrosa in third. Multiple World Champion Valentino Rossi crashed and then rejoined to finish in 5th Place overall.

Man Utd extended their lead at the top of the Premier League of Arsenal to 7points with a sizzling comeback from being 2-0 down at half time with Rooney scoring a hat-trick. Arsenal couldn’t break down Blackburn at the Emirates, Chelsea were held at Stoke after an early first half goal and Man City thrashed Sunderland 5-0 in Manchester. Elsewhere, Spurs lost ground with a 0-0 draw at bottom of the league to Wigan, Liverpools horrid season continued as they were beat by former manager, Roy Hodgson’s, West Brom and Newcastle came away with an emphatic 4-1 victory at home to Wolves. There were also wins for Birmingham against Bolton, Fulham against Blackpool and finally a pulsating draw between Everton and Villa.
