The IPL started for 2011 and what a opening it was with the Knight Riders needing 8 off the last over to beat the defending champions the Chennai Super Kings only for Tim Southee to bowl a brilliant last over only going for 5runs. The biggest shock would have to be Deccan Chargers losing to a very well run and drilled Royals team. It was a good start for the South Africans in IPL 2011 with 4players reaching 50 and lots of wickets. Botha, De Villiers, Kallis and McLaren all making 50’s for their teams and yes that is Johan Botha who batted at 3 for the Royals and played a match winning innings.
In one of the most amazing final rounds of a Major ever seen, with at one stage 14players within 4 shots of the lead, South African Charl Schwartzel won his first major championship with an incredible 4birdies in the last 4holes to win on 14-under 274 from Aussies, Jason Day and Adam Scott both on 12-under 276. After such promise Rory McIlroy choked under the pressure finishing with an 8-over 80 at times looking like an 18-handicap club golfer. Schwartzel’s final round 66 was the best of the day along with Tiger Woods who lost momentum on the back nine after a scintillating 5-under first nine. Woods ended the day at -10 with a whole host of other big name players such as Luke Donald and Geoff Ogilivy.
