With a record breaking year for entries in 2012, the winners of the brandhouse’ Responsible Drinking Media Awards will be announced at a grand awards ceremony at the One & Only Hotel in Cape Town on Wednesday, May 30, 2012.  The Media Awards celebrate the very best work by Journalists who report on the promotion of responsible drinking and write the most outstanding articles in the press, digital, TV and radio in order to encourage responsible use of alcohol.

“The media plays an important role in creating awareness and educating South Africans about responsible use of alcohol and responsible drinking.  We are very pleased to have introduced these awards and we sincerely hope that these will encourage the media across all sectors to continue to prioritise educational messages and campaigns around responsible drinking which will ultimately assist in changing behaviour against the abuse of alcohol,” says Mike Mabasa, corporate relations director at brandhouse.

This year, the awards were judged by an independent panel consisting of Cape Talk radio presenter, Kieno Kammies; media and marketing guru, Chris Moerdyk; and the chief director of the National Liquor Authority, Thezi Mabuza.  “This expert panel of judges had an arduous task of assessing over a 100 entries, all with compelling motivations and angles demonstrating their efforts to support and promote responsible drinking,” says Mabasa.

“We look forward to the ceremony next week so that we can truly honour the media for their contribution and efforts towards social upliftment of our communities through education and information.  In manufacturing, marketing and the distribution of alcoholic beverages, brandhouse has an obligation to inform and educate society about the responsible use of its products across all channels and categories”, added Mabasa.
