So as most of you know the Ashes started today. What a day of cricket it was with birthday boy, Peter Siddle, taking a hat-trick with career best innings figures of 16overs, 3maidens, 6wickets, 54runs.

The build up to the Ashes has seen Australia severely “down under” with all the media criticising how weak there squad was. To say the least the Aussie squad was less than ordinary. An Australian brewery even went as far as to say that if the Aussies win the Ashes, they will give every single adult in Australia a free beer. With a very ordinary squad, Australia eventually announced their final team with the likes of newbie Xavier Doherty, out of form batsmen Mike Hussey and Vice Captain Michael Clarke who is suffering from a back injury.

England’s team for the first test was fairly strong. The Poms lead by captain Andrew Strauss were set to provide a challenge to the Aussies but as things stand they are looking anything but challenging. Out of form batsmen Kevin Pietersen is said to be looking to regain his form this Ashes after not scoring a century since March last year. Scoring 43 off 69 balls he looked set to make his 50 when an outstanding delivery from Siddle saw Pietersen walking back to the pavilion on his 70th ball faced.

All in all the ashes is poised to be a very interesting encounter this year as the Aussies have done the unexpected by bowling the Poms out on the 1st day for a mere 260. Ian Bell of England who made 76 off 131 balls, said that there is no need for England to panic  as even though there score was under par, they weren’t very far off a par total.

Im predicting an Aussie victory in the 1st test. The next 2 victories have to go to the Poms, merely because of the Aussies lacking team and England will want to prove a point. To top it off the Aussies will eventually seal the Ashes off with 2 more victories.

Let the Games Begin
